Although some things are out of your control, like your genes, there are some simple things you can do to help reduce your risk of breast cancer.
Eat 5-10 servings of fruits and vegetables every day and include whole grains in your diet. Eat less red meat and include fish in your diet once in awhile. Reduce your daily intake of fat and sugar.
Aim for 30 minutes a day or a minimum of 150 minutes a week. Walk or bike to work if you can, choose the stairs, join a fitness class, try yoga… just get going and keep it up!
If you do drink alcohol, limit yourself to less than one drink a day… yes, that’s right. Studies show your risk increases with each standard drink, so keep your consumption down. And definitely avoid binge drinking.
Need we say more? Be sure to avoid second hand smoke, too.
Get familiar with your breasts so that if anything changes, you will spot it immediately. If you see something unusual, report it to a doctor.
